Irene – A Good Old Fashioned Orgy is a Sex Club Story

After his parents hand over their exclusive Hamptons property, a college student (Christoph Waltz) plans to celebrate his graduation with a good old fashioned party. With his friends, Jason (Djimon Hansu) plans a bacchanalian. When the party is rained out, Jason and his friends plan a night in. Everything goes well until one of the guests leaves the party early. The next morning, Jason’s friend finds him sleeping on the couch.

Angered, the student decides that he will get in touch with the local police department to report that someone has been trying to rob him. However, when the cop shows up, Jason realizes that the crime wasn’t a robbery. To make matters worse, he accidentally kills the detective on duty that working undercover, and now the local law enforcement is called in to investigate. A good old fashioned orgy breaks out in the Hamptons, and Jason and his new friend have to call it quits.

Years later, an African American laborer (Kevin Pollack) arrives in town to tend to his aging parents. He longs to escape the confinement of his wheelchair, but his employer (Michael Gambon) refuses to let him. A good old fashioned orgy breaks out in the Hamptons, and Jason and Kevin have to decide whose business is more important: cleaning or having fun. With a reluctant consent of the landlord, the two teams of ex-pats become the best of friends. But a real estate agent (John Tutturro) also wants to stake claim to the Hamptons for his own money, and when a deadly shooting turns things in his favor, the boys must work together to escape the lawmen’s wrath.

“Orgy” is the second movie in Michael Gambon’s lucrative career as a screenwriter/ director (and co-writer). Although it was not released until much later, this film nevertheless received warm critical reviews from critics around the world. It tells the story of two groups of young men who find themselves side by side in a white trash real estate office on Labor Day weekend. The weekend passed without incident until a real estate agent (John Tutturro) arrives to clean up the place following a night of heavy partying. When he discovers that the place is a virtual brothel, he puts the heads of the two groups in prison and opens the floodgates to everyone else.

A good old fashioned orgy (orgy-in-the-know as others might say) is a perfect recipe for a successful comedy. With an endless array of actresses and performers playing the roles of the unsuspecting rich and famous, a viewer can’t help but root for the guys in question. John Tutturro plays the role of Johnnie, the more sensible of the two main characters; Marlon Brando plays Kevin, the more obviously gay of the two, and Steve McQueen plays Sam, the straight-laced butler who’s always there to put a little spice into the otherwise tame routine. With a slew of Hollywood talents lending their talents to the film, A Good Old Fashioned Orgy manages to remain on target with its message of equal opportunity for all. If only we could get a sequel…

One would think that after such a hilarious and entertaining film like A Good Little Fashioned Orgy, Universal Pictures would at least give us a chance to see what they had in store for us in their next outing… Sadly, no A Good Little Fashioned Orgy has been made. However, one very promising film has been given the green light to become a part of the Universal Pictures catalog. The name of the movie is “Irene”, and centers on the intertwining lives of a middle class American family. In the midst of all of the bickering between husband and wife, there’s a closeted girl by the name of “Sally” who finds herself involved in a love affair with a much older man. This romantic story, which also stars Joanna Garcia Williams, is being written and directed by Aaron Sorkin.

With the casting of Joanna Garcia Williams, it would seem that a good friend of hers could be cast as Sally in “Irene”, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. There are many rumors that the role of Sally could be played by Maya Rudolph, who was in the film “The Social Network”. Another rumor is that Goldwyn will be involved with the script, which is quite exciting for a project without a real writer. With the recent trend for casting new and young talent in the film industry, this could be a real bummer, but it looks like the creative team behind the film will be sticking to the original premise, which is about a couple of friends who find themselves thrown together in a crazy sex club.

If you like your romance comedies with a little steam behind them, you’ll like “Irene”. This is one of my favorites of Goldwyn’s movies, and I’m sure it will become an even better movie when it becomes even more successful. It’s set up as a comedy, so it’s not too surprising that it’s filled with great one-liners. They also managed to tie in some romance, which helps the overall tone of the movie. I’m looking forward to seeing more of Sam Goldwyn and his directing abilities. “Irene” is sure to be a hit.
